Toad Night: Vowel Team Words

Read words with vowel teams in a poem.

Read the poem

Read the poem. It has 4 numbered parts. Then answer the questions.

Toad Night

1It is a cool, wet night.
Dad and I each hold a light.
The road is closed for toads, so we wait
with our pails by the big oak gate.

2Hop, hop! Here comes a toad,
brown and bumpy, on the road.
I put on gloves and lift it with care.
Then I set it in my pail. "You are safe in there!"

3More toads hop up. We fill each pail.
Some are quick. One is as slow as a snail!

4We cross the road to the grass and weeds.
We tip our pails by the marsh and reeds.
Out hop the toads, one by one.
Dad counts ten. Our job is done!
