Read the story and the pictures

This story has three pictures. Each picture is described in words below the story.

Pebble and the Foggy Morning

1Pebble was the smallest tugboat in Harbor Bay. Her paint was bright orange, and her horn made a squeaky toot. The big tugboats teased her about that toot, so Pebble mostly stayed tied to the dock and watched the waves.

2One morning, a thick fog rolled in. A huge ship called the Grand Marlin was coming toward the harbor, but its captain could not see the rocks. Waves slapped against them in the gray. "We need a guide!" the ship's radio crackled. The big tugboats were too far out at sea to hear.

3Pebble's engine rumbled. Her heart thumped. She did not feel brave, but she nosed out into the gray water. She switched on her little lamp. "Follow my light!" she called, and her horn tooted across the water. Toot! Toot!

4Slowly, the Grand Marlin followed the tiny glow. Pebble steered away from the rocks until, at last, the fog thinned and the dock came into view. All the sailors cheered. "Nice tooting," said one of the big tugboats, and Pebble puffed out a happy curl of smoke.

Picture A (goes with paragraph 2): The whole picture is gray and blue. Thick fog covers the page. A huge ship is only a dark shape in the fog, and sharp rocks poke out of the water below it. Far away in one corner, a tiny orange tugboat sits alone.
Picture B (goes with paragraph 3): Pebble sits in the middle of the page, smaller than the waves around her. Her lamp makes a small gold circle in the gray fog. Her chin is lifted, and her smokestack puffs straight up.
Picture C (goes with paragraph 4): The fog is thin, and the sky glows pink and gold like a sunrise. Sailors wave from the deck of the big ship. The big ship follows close behind Pebble, and the dock is near. Pebble's smoke makes a happy curl.
