Bakery Boxes: Divide and Find What Is Left Over

Pack baked goods into equal groups and find quotients and remainders.

Pack the boxes

Every box, bag, or tray gets the same number of treats. Find how many go in each group and how many are left over.

1.
Rosa has 87 muffins. She packs 4 muffins in each box.

87 ÷ 4 = R

2.
Mr. Okafor bakes 156 bagels. He puts 6 bagels in each bag.

He fills bags, with bagels left over.

3.
The bakery shares 1,250 cookies equally among 8 trays.

Each tray gets cookies, and cookies are left over.

4.
Kai packs 3,605 crackers into 5 big tins. Each tin holds the same number of crackers, and none are left over.

Each tin holds crackers.

5.
Lena has 428 rolls. She fills as many baskets as she can with 9 rolls in each basket. How many full baskets does she fill, and how many rolls are left over?
Question 5 options

Divide one part at a time

Break the big number into parts that are easy to divide. Divide each part, then put the answers together.

6.
Ivy wants to find 924 ÷ 4. She breaks 924 into 800 + 120 + 4.

800 ÷ 4 =
120 ÷ 4 =
4 ÷ 4 =
So 924 ÷ 4 =

7.
The baker has 2,537 chocolate chips to split equally into 6 bowls. Ivy breaks 2,537 into 2,400 + 120 + 17.

2,400 ÷ 6 =
120 ÷ 6 =
17 ÷ 6 = 2 R
So 2,537 ÷ 6 = R

8.
Match each division to its quotient and remainder. One answer is not used.
9.
Circle every division that has a remainder of 0.

Check the baker's math

To check a division, multiply the quotient by the number you divided by, then add the remainder.

10.
Omar packs 643 pretzels into bags of 7. He says 643 ÷ 7 = 91 R 6. Check his answer.

7 × 91 =
637 + 6 =
Is Omar's answer correct? Write yes or no:

11.
Zoe packs 263 cupcakes into boxes of 5. She writes 263 ÷ 5 = 51 R 8. What mistake did Zoe make?
