A Letter from Elise

March 12, 1910
Dear Theo,
Each March, my family wakes early in Vermont. We ride in a horse-drawn wagon to our maple trees. Father and I hang tin pails to collect sap. Mother boils the sap in a large iron pan. At the end, we eat pancakes with maple syrup. You told me that each October your Ohio family presses apples for cider. Your family works together and shares the cider. Our activities differ, but both are family traditions.
Your cousin, Elise
